IMPORTANCE OF BEING HANDSOME
I FEMININE MIND AND POLITICS lßy Air Mail—From Our Own Correspondent] LONDON. 3rd March. ' It is abundantly clear in the EdenChamberlain duel that so far as the ladies were concerned emotion ran all one way Mr Anthony Eden, in lace, figure, and attire, is almost too fascinating. He looks like the Cabinet Minister of some best-seller woman novelist. Ouida might have' taken him as he stands, or sits as her hero-Guardsman officer. What Hollywood would offer the cx-Forcign Secretary for a film debut is something beyond normal computation. If Mr Eden suddenly decided to turn screen actor. Ronald Colman would have to put up the shutters. By contrast with him. Mr Neville Chamberlain. with those shaggy eyebrows and that provincial moustache, is simp- : ly not in the feminist politician's picture at all. Yet to the mere man critic. ; Mr Eden is rather too magazine-covery j in looks to inspire real confidence in ; his ability to stand up to totalitarian i supermen, whereas there is a touch of j rugged strength in the P.M. which at i least suggests possibilities. Earl Bald- 1 win, when he enfranchised the flappers, did not think of the looks factor. I ; askea my typist some time ago why she < had voted for a Communist instead of the National candidate. "Oh.” she re- ■ plied, "he’s such a beautiful man!”
