The Dutch East Indies Government is reparing the necessary bases in its territory. The bases referred to are those which will be used by Empire flying-boats between Singapore and Sydney in the service from England to Australia. They were surveyed by Captain J. W. Burgess in the Centaurus. Mr Hudson Fysh, of Qantas Empire Airways, said recently that it would be impossible to maintain a regular service until properly equipped bases were constructed, for delay in doing which he blamed the Australian Government.
