AUCKLAND POINT CEREMONY i! ;j LARGE ATTENDANCR OF PARENTS i | PRESENTATION OF HONOURS CERTIFICATES Thu annu;il Parents’ Day and prize- ! giving at the Auckland Point School - was held on Wednesday afternoon when there was a large attendance. Situated in the school grounds was the Christmas Tree decorated with toys and balloons and it made a very ’ attractive sight to everyone either at- . tending or passing the school. The function was opened by the » Chairman of the School Committee, Mr ■ L. if. Bull, who expressed pleasure at ! seeing such a large attendance. He! ’ appealed to the boys and girls leaving ! ' school this year to remember the " school motto “Always Play Straight." The Chairman before wishing all ! present a merry Christmas and a |f happy New Year, intimated that next ,: Friday normal breaking up day, would - be recognised as a committee holiday, 1 which would be granted to the pupils in recognition of their good 1 work and service rendered to the school during the year. This an- ’ nounccmcnt was received with enthusiasm by the pupils. A most enjoyable entertainment programme was presented in the area ,, 1 enclosing the Christmas tree. The ■> items were:— 4 Forms 1 and 2: Folk Dances (Goddesses, Maxina and Rufty Tufty) by - i the girls and physical drill by the ; i boys. Standard 3: Skipping dance. Standard 4: Skating dance. Standards 3 and 4: Norwegian dance. , The Chairman then presented the , certificates, prefect badges, and honr ours lists, and in so doing he con- - graulated Richard Weslrupp on gambling the Dux Medal for the year. Horrocks, of the leaching stall'), was >- marked by the ringing of bells, and 1’ the waiting junior pupils numbering 160 gave him a rousing reception. The n children were assembled around the tree and their two items, “Safety First p and a nursery rhyme were greatly appreciated. :s For over half an hour Santa Claus i-1 was busily engaged distributing the e: toys from the tree. i The stalls were very busy during I- i the afternoon and were able to com- % i plete the sale of goods in quick time. \ Afternoon tea was served in a class--1 j room which was crowded out. The • t ; ladies’ committee was assisted in dis- ... j pensing tea by a number of senior h pupils. The orchestral music provided it by Mr T.
