JOHANNESBURG. 14th December
The South African Olympic and Empire Games Association unanimously decided not to allow the wrestler Nel who stowed away on the Ascanius officially to represent South Africa at the Empire Games.
A cablegram received from Cape
Town on Saturday stated that the manager of the South African Empire Games team had sent a radio message that the Transvaal wrestler Nel stowed away aboard the Ascanius. By arrangement with the Minister of the Interior his fare had been paid. It w'as thought that Nel would probably be made an official member of the team. Nel ranked fifth among the South African wrestlers, but only four were selected. When he failed he said he would work his passage, and obtained three months’ leave.
