MAGNIFICENT RESPONSE LEPER APPEAL
|To lbe Editor] Sir,—On behalf of Ihe lepers at Makogai we wish to thank most sin- ■* cerely the people of New Zealand for the wonderful response made to the Christmas appeal. Forty-seven cases of useful goods and £2,303 in cash were received. Wc feel deeply grateful for this magnificent collection, especially as we know that it has been subscribed by all classes of society. There are now 600 patients to share these gifts. Little presents and luxuries (especially for the bedridden cases) will be given to patients at intervals throughout the year.
We have communicated with the Aledical Superintendent at Makogai, Dr. W. G. AlcNaughton, who will distribute tire gifts without distinction of creed or colour. The money is being spent in New Zealand.
We would like to take this opportunity of thanking your paper for helping along this appeal year after year. The lepers on the Island realise that they are very much indebted to the Press of New Zealand.
In conclusion, we hope and trust that the joy and happiness which will be the lepers’ lot this Christmas time may also be shared by all our kind friends in New Zealand..—We, are, etc., T. FLETCHER TELFORD M.D., D.Sc. P. J. TWOMEY. Co-Trustees, Christchurch, 14th December.
