BIRTH-RATE IN BRITAIN

FIRST INCREASE FOR MANY YEARS [United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 13lh November, 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, 11th November. The British birth-rate last year showed the first increase for many years. The figures were 14.8 a thousand, compared with 14.7 in 1935 and 14.4 in 1933, which is the lowest ever recorded. The county of Durham, one of the worst depressed areas, had the highest rate, 17.3, disproving the theory that unemployment is to blame for the decline of population.
