NOW COMPLETELY RESTORED RE-OPENED FOR PUBLIC WORSHIP [United Press Association—By Eleetrio Telegraph—Copyrigbtl RHEIMS, 18th October. After 23 years’ interruption owing to being damaged by the Germans during the war, Rheims Cathedral has now been completely restored and was reopened for public worship with a sevenhour ceremony. . Cardinal Surard, Archbishop of Rheims, who was the celebrant, explained that, despite the fact that it had existed since the fifteenth century, and 25 French kings had been crowned there, the cathedral was never consecrated. The ceremony, which was overlooked in ancient times, was being arranged when war broke out. Altogether 237 shells directly hit the cathedral, the first on 9th September, 1914, and the last on 17th September, 1918.
