THE GRAND MUFTI
PLANNING TO VISIT ITALY TO SEEK SUPPORT AGAINST BRITISH (Received 19th October, 9 a.m.) LONDON. 18th October. The Jerusalem correspondent of the "Daily Herald" reports that the Grand Mufti, who is at present protected by an armed guard in the village of Lebanon, is planning a visit to Italy, presumably to seek Signor Mussolini's support for his plans to harrass the British authorities in Palestine.
The Mufti before his flight told friends of his intention of going to Italy. An Addis Ababa message reports that Ethiopian Moslems and Arabs telegraphed to the British Prime Minister, Mr Neville Chamberlain, denouncing the British policy in Palestine and joining with their Palestinian brethren in the rejection of the plan for the dismemberment of Palestine and their separation from the remainder of th Arab world.
A Jerusalem message says an Arme- ; nian street photographer mistaken for lan Arab was critically shot to-day. A I party of Arabs going to work was i sniped, one being wounded. DESTRUCTION OF HOUSES “HORROR THROUGHOUT THE WORLD” VIEW OF ITALIAN JOURNAL MILAN, 18th October. Signor Mussolini’s newspaper “Popolo d’ltalia”, referring to the destruction of houses at Lydda on 16th October accuses Britain of sowing destruction and massacre in the Holy Land, which must arouse horror throughout the world. “We are waiting to see if Anglican prelates in the name of the gospel, or democratic newspapers on behalf of so-called immortal principles, will approve of the new licrodian orders in the Holy Land.” ROUND-UP OF ARABS (Received 19th October. 10.55 a.m.) JERUSALEM, 18th October. Black Watch troops are rounding-up Arabs who raided the police station at Daharia and stole five rifles.
