CHORAL MUSIC AT ITS BEST
NEXT WEDNESDAY’S CONCERT One of the most popular and entertaining forms of choral musical programmes is undoubtedly that rendered by male voices. The appeal Of the martial-air; the savour of the free life of the sailor in the numerous sea pieces; the stirring rhythm of national airs; and the attraction of sentimental compositions are more strongly exemplified in rendition by male choirs. This has been more than proved by the support given to the loeal male voice choir which has grown in popularity, with each succeeding concert. The programme to be presented on Wednesday night next at the School of Music will further enhance this opinion, as the choir has prepared many new works of outstanding merit, chief among which will be the “Tar’s Song” by Hattcn, “The Sea Fight” by Paliard, and Krugh’s “Hark! the Merry Drum.” In Contrast are “The Crimson Sarafan” a translation by Alfred - Hill; “The Quest” by PerciVal; a Celtic Hymn Shd “Allan Water.” In all there will be some twelve part songs and in addition four soloists will contribute items: Mrs E, J. Murray, contralto, Will sing “The. Captive,”’ Mr D. Bishop has bracketed numbers “June Music” and “My Heart is a Haven,” and Mrs C. G. Kirk will appeal *•- elocution "The VOW.” The instrumental side of the programme is catered for by Miss Glert Carty,. L.R.S.M., F.T.C.L.—an organ composition "Symphonic Pathetique” by Tschaikowsky. The box plan on view at Chas. Begg and Co’s, is filling and patrons are advised to book early.
