NELSON REPERTORY CLUB
"DISTINGUISHED GATHERING” Rehearsals lor the forthcoming production ol "Distinguished Gathering” by the Nelson Repertory Club are now at an advanced stage. The presentation of James Parishs murder mystery thriller during Coronation Week promises to be an outstanding event; amongst the many line performances j given by amateur dramatic bodies in i this city. The play calls lor sound acting on j the part of the players. The situations i ..re at limes intensely dramatic and gripping. The club is fortunate in saving so strong a cast. Mr F. W. Huggins will be remembered for his line character study in "Aren’t We All!" and on him falls a heavy load in the present production. Hh gives a tine portrayal ol Kicnmond Motuague, me publisher with a taste for unusual din-ner-parties.
Mrs C. G. Kirk needs no introduction to Nelson audiences. A £ Judith, the publisher's wife, she plays hostess to the "Distinguished Gathering,” and gives a periormancc full of dramatic merit which will be remembered as one oi her best.
Mrs P. K. Parker and Mrs K. f.'oynihan are.both artists to their finger-tips. As Lady Thalea, Mrs Parker acids yet another success to a long list cf fine performances, while Mrs Moymnan's portrayal of Dorinda Caswell, : i her own inimitable style, lends a note '•[ brightness to the play wihch will be appreciated. Miss M. Jeffreys, who will be remembered for her work in "London Wall,” should make an instant appeal, while Mrs C. M. Coote. who is new to Nelson audiences, is a decided acquisition to the acting personnel of the club.
Mr F. G. Twiss as Sir Brian and Mr E. Allan as Major "Runty” Pearson, can be relied on. as in past performances, to please with their work. Mr J. 1 O. Burnett has not appeared on a Nelson stage since college days, and the club feels sure that the audience will regard him as a distinct "find.” Mr J. W. Russell as Vine the author, and Mr A. L. Tresidder as the bu‘ler fill smaller parts effectively. The unravelling of the mystery of “Who killed Vines?” is in the hands of the Criminal Investigation Department icpresented by Messrs C. G Kirk. W. D. Williams and J. M Horrack.
The play is produced by Mr C. G Kirk.
