ESTIMATES FOR YEAR 1937-1938 LEVY ON CITY COUNCIL £1075 10s The estimates adopted yesterday by the Nelson Fire Board for the year 1937-38 provided for an expenditure of £2559 13s lOd lo be made up as follows: Credit balance from 1936-37. £333 13s !0d: amount payable by the Minister of Finance, £75, amount payable by Insurance Company's. £1075 10s; amount payable by City Council, £1075 10s.

The contributions last year weie Government, £75; Insurance Companies, £982 10s. City Council, £982 10s. The annual accounts of the board for Ihc year ended 31st March, siiowed a cash balance at the end of (he year of £707 18s 9ri. though this sum included £SO held as a contractor’s deposit in connection v/ith the fire alarm contract The income and expenditure account showed a surplus of income over expenditure of £333 13s lOd which sum had to be taken into account in formulating the estimates for the year 1937- j 1938

Port nelson Balloons streamers and novelties are to oe learn red. there will be an excellent supper. and the City Dance Band will contribute towards making the dance an • upstanding event

The Loyal Neison Lodge and Nol--oii Defence Rifle Club will nold another enjoyable lunetion to night in the Oddlellows' Hall The programme will consist o( old time favourites interspersed with one steps, the gipsytap and a fox trot Mr Harold Williams’s band will be in attendance and Bro. G S Coleman will officiate as M.C

The V M C A Cricket Club is holding a dance to-night as the wind-up of the season.
