THE SONG OF THE MACHINES
The mechanical organisation ot a newspaper is very exacting. At least six major processes—to take no reckoning of the minor processes into which each of the more important ones divides itself—lie behind the appearance of the printed sheet. Here, as in the gathe-mg and preparation of the news supply, organisation must be the keynote. Each process is represented by a distinct and in.! .-‘endent department, yet all must be organised and correlated so that they function smoothly expeditiously. Even minute delays are serious.
