The sterling audacity of the modern criminal is brought into bold relief in “Sworn Enemy,” which reveals the amazing daring of a typical underworld leader, Julled into a sense of false security by his own peculiar success. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer produced the film and made a fortunate choice in the casting of Joseph Calleia in the portrayal of the enemy of society. Robert Young has the leading role, Florence Rice, the charming daughter of Grantlapd Rice, famous sports thority, plays the feminine lead, while Nat Pendleton, who was the mighty Sandow of “The Great, Ziegfeld,” appears here as a rising young hero of the prize ring, and that distinguished veteran, Lewis Stone, plays a dramatic role as an innocent man convicted of crime and sent to the penitentiary. Other notable players are Harold Huber, Harvey Stephens and Samuel Hinds. Y Y -V- Y “Down the Stretch” is an outstanding picture of the sport of- kings.
