MONTHLY MEETING TO-DAY The monthly meeting of the Wai? mean Electric Power Board held today at Richmond was attended by Messrs F. W. Greenslade, chairman, R. J. L. York, C. B. Webby, F. W. Gibbs, L. A. Higgins, H. E. Stephens, and W. Max. REPORTS SUPPLY OF OPERATIONS DURING MONTH The Supervising Engineer (Mr N. A. Andrews) submitted the following report for the month:— MOTUEKA AREA Plant: —An electrical storm on the Bth did a certain amount of damage to the Midworth remote control recording apparatus, burning out two relays, and puncturing a blocking condenser Repairs have been effected. The generating plants are in good order. Supply Operations:—The units generated during the month were as follows, figures for the same month in 1935 being in brackets: — Hydro, 72100 (57110); diesel, 164; total 72264. Half hour demand 232 k.w. (165 k.w.).
An abundant supply of water has been available to meet the above peak demand, which is highest recorded on the system. A very severe storm passed over the area on the morning of the Bth, rupturing a large number of H.T. and L.T. fuses throughout the area. A direct hit in the Riwaka area shattered a cross-arm and caused certain damage ,to consumers property. The'hydro station maintained supply throughout the period. A shutdown occurred at midnight on the 13th, due to an earth fault closing down the Hydro plant. This was attended to and the plant reconnected to the supply during the early hours of the morning. Installations.—The lojfcd connected during September and previous connections are as follows: — Previous New Ttl. Load .... 2494.13 45.77 2539.9 WAIMEA AREA Headworks.—The river has been above normal level during the month. Two heavy freshes were recorded on the Ist and 18th, but the stone bars were not effected.
Some repairs were carried out to the Penstock gates at the Lower Power Station.
Plant.—The two stations are in good order, and, due to a plentiful supply of water the Lower Station has not been required for pegk. loads. Supply Operations.—The units required for the month were as follows: Units generated, Waimea, 27476 (17168); units purchased, city, 7813; total, 35,289. Maximum demand, hydro, 93 k.w. 8.30 p.m. on 18th (70); maximum demand, city, 41 k.w.
The only interruption in supply occurred by arrangement on the 13th instant, when power was disconnected for 17 minutes to enable new connections to be made on the main distribution line.
Reticulation—Good progress has been made with the extension to Waimea West, and consumers in that area will be connected before Christmas. Five new services have been run requiring 15 chains of cable. The Public Works Department Inspector made an inspection of the whole area between the 14th and 19th of the month. The official report from the Department has not yet been received. Applications.—Applications from 1/9/33 to 31/11/36.
