TO TEST, TASTE !
Scientists confirm the popular judgment that the Cox’s Orange is the best eating apple in the world. They have, by analysis, found that it is the perfect blend. It contains just the right amount of acidity to give it a tang, without making it too sharp for the average palate. The Cox’s Orange takes its name from Richard Cox, of Colnbrook, Slough, Bucks, who raised the first o£ the super-apples from a pip of Ribston. He was a retired brewer, but very little else is known about him, though it is believed that at one time he lived at Harmondsworth, in Middlesex. It is sometimes
said that the test for a Cox is to hold the apple close to your ear. If you can hear the pips rattle, it is a Cox. But there are other apples of which this is also true. The surest test of the king of apples is to taste it!
