BASIC WAGE
SHOULD BE FIXED BY GOVERNMENT OPINION IN LABOUR CIRCLES (By Telegraph—l’reßß Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. The opinion that the Government should take steps to fix the basic wage instead of leaving it to the Arbitration Court, is gaining ground in union circles in Auckland. Some unionists consider that the Government made a mistake in delegating the powers to the Court, but it is not too late to remedy the position. Representations are likely to be made to the Cabinet. Meanwhile the Hotel and Restaurand Workers’ Union intend demanding the same cash basic rate as provided to other workers.
