Women jockeys triumphed in. the 270th four-mile race for the Newmarket Town Plate, founded by Charles 11. It is the only horse- race in the world in which women >. compete. on equal terms with men. The only male jockey in the field of seven was unplaced. Jimmy’s Pet, ridden by the 20-year-old Miss Thrale, daughter of the famous trainer, won in a thrilling finish.
