ACTION AGAINST CIVIC OFFICIALS (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) TERRE HAUTE (Indiana), 7th October. Mr Earl Browder, Communist candidate for the Presidency, to-day sued the mayor and chief of police of Terre Haute for 50,000 dollars, alleging loss of time, false arrest, and malicious prosecution.

Mr. Earl Browder was arrested on Ist October and charged with vagrancy. Four colleagues, including Waldo Frank, the novelist, were also sent to gaol. The Mayor, Mr Beecher, a Republican, stated that he would not allow Communism to be established at Terra Haute. Mr Landon and President Roosevelt recognised that Communism was a menance to the nation.
