RAIL CAR ACCIDENT
PREVENTING SIMILAR OCCUR- p $ RENCES DEPARTMENT TO INVESTIGATE (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. In an interview referring to the rail car accident, the'General Manager of Railways, Mr G. H. Mackley, said the Department would investigate the desirability of lengthening the breakwind and would also make provision for wise discretion to be exercised when gales of such severity were again encountered. The Department would consider empowering drivers of rail cars or other authorised officials to decide whether to proceed on tire journey in such extraordinary conditions and, if necessary, a steam train could be substituted.
