PROBLEMS OF DANZIG
NAZI PROTEST AT GENEVA DECISION ANGRY NEWSPAPER COMMENT (United Press Association—-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 7th October. Herr' Greiser, President of the Danzig Senate, lias sent a Note to Geneva protesting against the Council’s decision, which, lie complains, was taken in the absence of the Danzig delegation, and i« therefore one-sided. The “Verposten,” the Nazis’ Danzig organ, accuses the. Council of impoliteness, saying: “Wo are not Kaffirs but llie Government of a sovereign State.” It. ignores the fact that Heir Greiser refused in advance to send a representative to Geneva. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Berlin correspondent says that Herr Greiser’s policy i s undoubtedly inspired bv the German Foreign Office, because it is no secret that Danzig is administered and controlled from Berlin. The “Borsen Zeitung” describes the Council’s decision as a disguised attempt to disturb the good relations between Germany and Poland. “The' only result will be to remove in German eyes the last vestige of belief in the League’s ability to reform itself.”
A cable published yesterday stated that the Council of the League of Nations had requested the Polish Government. to assume responsibility for finding a solution of problems at Danzig. The Polish representative luid accepted tile task. The Polish Committee’s report emphasised that it was clear that the Council and the High Commissioner “are at present meeting with systematic obstruction from the Danzig Senate.”
