CONTRACT SIGNED AT LIVERPOOL (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, „.6th October. The formal contract between the Cunard-White Star Company and the shipbuilders for the construction of the express steamship now known as “No. 552,” a sister ship to the Queen Mary, was signed at Liverpool to-day. Messrs John Brown have moved into position in their yard on the Clyde the huge crane used in the construction of the Queen Mary and are proceeding with the formation of the keel box for the new liner. They have already placed an order with Messrs William Beardmore for the hull castings for No.* > 552. These castings are of exceptional dimensions and consist of a cast steel stem, a cast steel stern frame, cast steel shaft brackets and a cast steel rudder. They will be manufactured at Beardmore’s Parkhead Works, Glasgow. The contract is estimated to be worth many thousands of pounds and is one of the largest received by the firm for many years.
