SENIOR CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP
THE AVERAGE SYSTEM POINTS ON PERCENTAGE BASIS The City Cricket Association’s senior competition last year consisted of three rounds, and the position arose whereby College owing to the holidays intervening were practically excluded from any chance of winning owing to unfinished matches. In his annual report to the City Association meeting last evening the secretary, Mr A. W. Mcllwraith, commented on College’s position and was of the opinion that the association might well consider deciding the winner of the championship on the average system.
Mr H. M. McGirr agreed, saying that while the winning of the championship was not an all-important matter to the College, nevertheless it was only right that they should be given the opportunity of winning if they could. During a discussion on the matter it was realised that the position would be simplified were the competition limited to two rounds; but as against this it was agreed that the wasting of several available Saturdays was not at all desirable. It was resolved on the motion of Mr McGirr seconded by Mr R. H. Methven, that the points for the senior matches this year be awarded on the percentage basis, the winning team being that which has scored the greatest number of points in relation to the possible.
