LESLIE HOWARD AS FILM PRODUCER

15 FILMS IN ENGLAND TO COST £675,000 (By Ait Mail—From A Special Correspondent) LONDON, 12th September. The famous British actor, Mr Leslie Howard and the American film director Mr Dudley Murphy, have formed a new British film-producing organisation under the title Associated Artists for the production of 15 films during the next two years at a cost of £675,000.

Mr Howard stated this week that this organisation, when completed, will consist of four stars, three directors, and three writers, all of whom will have a voice in the making of their films and a share in their proceeds. Mr Howard himself is the first of the stars, Miss Anna Sten will be the second, and the other two will be one American and one British, both of international reputation. Mr Dudley Murphy, who directed Mr Paul Robeson in “The Emperor Jones” is the first of the directors, and Mr Hugh Walpole the first of writers. Mr Howard said, “I have to leave London to fulfil my promise to appear in ‘Hamlet’ in New York, but as soon as that play ends its run I shall return to carry on my work for Associated Artists.” The first film to be made by the new organisation will be “King for a Day” written by Mr Dashiell Hammott, author of “The Thin Man.” Then will follow “The Martyr” by Mr Liam O’Flaherty.
