NELSON COLLEGES

COUNCIL OF GOVERNORS MEET The monthly meeting of the Council of Governors of Nelson Colleges was attended by Mr C. R. Fell tin the chair), Mrs E. R Childs, Messrs S. Kenning, W. Lock, F. W. Hamilton, F. J. Cullen, and Drs. W. D. S. Johnston and H. E. A. Washbourn. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs C. M. Collins, C. Milner and F. V. Knapp. Accounts amounting to £2855 10s 8d were passed for payment. The Technical Supervisor, Mr T. D. Milne, reported that class attendances for September were 594 as against 529 for September, 1935. New classes had been formed in art needlework and motor mechanics on account of extra numbers. Ten pupils sat for Pitman’s shorthand examination and nine were successful. It was decided to commence the art classes next year in the newly equipped art rooms at the technical block at the Boys' College. The report of the Principal of the Girls’ College, Miss J. Stewart, was received. It was stated that the Dramatic Club, under Miss E. M. King, was staging a Spanish play in the College gymnasium on 16th and 17th October.

The report of the Principal of the Boys’ College, Mr H. V. Searie, vas also received.

The principals of both colleges expressed their indebtedness to the Rotary Club for copies of magazines. Mr Searie also thanked Mr J. Newman for the presentation of a weekly publication.
