A.J.C/S SECOND DAY YOUNG CRUSADER’S METROPOLITAN SUCCESS FOR GAY BLONDE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, sth October. The second day of the A.J.C. spring meeting was held at Randwick to-day in fine, cool weather. There was an excellent attendance, and the fast times indicated that the track was in splendid condition. The Veilmond colt Rodborough brilliantly won the Breeders’ Plate. Commencing smartly, he drew away passing the half-mile, and ran on untroubled to win by three lengths. The lightly-weighed Young Crusader made a one-horse race of the Metropolitan Handicap. Dashing to the front at the barrier rise, he quickly established a six lengths’ lead and ran home five lengths ahead of the field. Gay Blonde gave a grand performance to win the Squatters’ Handicap. Running in last position passing the half-mile, she unwound a brilliant run in the straight which carried her to victory with three lengths to spare. Apart from the effort of Gay Blonde, the New Zealanders throughout the day performed poorly. The jockey W. Cook, who lost the Epsom Handicap tm a protest, received a measure of compensation to-day, piloting three winners. M. McCarten was held responsible for interference with Tonga in the Shorts Handicap, and was suspended from riding for one month. Results: — The Shorts Handicap, of £800; six furlongs.— Some Boy, 7.11 (Cook) 1 Mark Anthony, 7.0 (Pereival) 2 Korimako, 7.2 (O’Sullivan) .... 3 Twelve started, including Stretto and II Duce, who finished in the rear of the field. Silver Ring was the only scratching Won by five lengths; three lengths. Time, 2.43 L Centennial Park Handicap, of £600; six furlongs.—Disalto, 9.4 (Davidson), 1; Raleigh, 8.6 (Jones), 2; Goorka (Coutts), 3. Twenty started, including Silver Coat, Palm, The Palmist and Riposte, al finishing in the rear of the field. Won by a head; one-length and a quarter. Squatters’ Handicap, of £650; one mile and a quarter.—

AN INGLORIOUS DISPLAY SPORTING BLOOD FINISHES TENTH (Received 6th October, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, sth October. Sporting Blood gave an inglorious display finishing tenth. Silver Ring’s eleventh-hour withdrawal from the Metropolitan was due to his connections not being enamoured with his chance with 9.9. He is being reserved for the weight-for-age races. Gold Rod is now experiencing ligament trouble and will not be raced again till next autumn. Capris has been rehandicapped 71bs to 8.4 for the Caulfield Cup.

Metropolitan, says that Young Mr Gerald, commenting on the Crusader recorded one of the most remarkable wins yet witnessed in the Metropolitan. Taking full advantage of his light weight, he had all the other runners struggling hard from the half-mile.
