o-EX-TOWN CLERK SENTENCED (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, sth October. Having admitted the theft as a servant of sums totalling £390, Cecil Richard Wilkinson, aged 36, formerly Town Clerk of Glen Eden, came before his Honour Mr Justice Fair for sentence this morning. After hearing

an appeal by counsel, Mr Bryce Halt, in mitigation, his Honour pointed out that the offences occurred almost daily for a period of six months, and the amounts taken were increased week by week. It was a painful case, -"but not one for probation. Prisoner had abused a position of trust. His Honour took l into account the fact that Wilkinson had been in financial difficulties owing to his wife’s illhealth and the assistance he had given in the investigation. A sentence of twelve months’ imprisonment was imposed.
