Novice Handicap, of £75; six fur-longs.—3-5 Lady Valma, 8.2 (Tinker), 1; 6-8 Strathire, 8.6, 2; 9-6 Poker Face, 8.0, 3. All started. Won by a short head, a neck. Time, 1.16 3-5. Second Steeplechase Handicap, of £l3O, about three miles.—6-4 Friendly Boy, 9.0 (Jones), 1; 3-1 Kinkle, 9.7, 2; 5-5 Golden England, 11.2, 3. Scratched: London. Won by six lengths. Time, 5.50. One of the most sensational incidents in the Auckland Province occurred, only two horses completing the course safely. Green Park fell with a round to go and broke its neck. Valpeen and Golden England were remounted by bystanders and a great finish for third place was staged between them.
