INNOCENT MR LANSBURY

A NOTION ABOUT PRESIDENT (By Air Mail—From Our Own Correspondent.) LONDON, 10th September. Among his other ingenuous qualities Mr Lansbury has the knack of believing what he wants to believe. In no other way is it possible to account for his notion that the President of the United States might take the lead in summoning a conference of “monarchs and dictators’ ’to consider world problems. The Americans are fond of making censorious criticisms of European politicians, but they have not the least intention of helping them, and if either Mr Roosevelt or Mr Langdon showed any inclination that way, his chances of the Presidency , would he gone. During his United States tour Mr Lansbury must: have met mainly people like-minded with himself, but I doubt if even they would support his proposal.
