THE STATE PLACEMENT SERVICE

HAS COME TO STAY CONTACT WITH EMPLOYERS It has already been announced that the name of the Placement Scheme of the Labour Department has been changed to that of the “State Placement Service.” This can be taken as an indication that this service to the employers and the employees of the Dominion has come to stay. In this City the Placement Service is officered by Mr T. W. Guy, as Placement Officer, and by Mr E. D. Dredge, as his assistant. These two officers have considerable knowledge of the abilities of the men with whom they come into contact day after day, and may be communicated with on telephone No. 467.

The service placed 28 men with employers last week, including 13 casual, 3 temporary, and 12 permanent, representative of all callings. Of the above, 2 men were placed with the farming community. There appears to be an ever-increas-ing demand for youths of 16 and 17 from the farmers, and any youth desiring to seek work with a farmer is asked to get into touch with the Placement Officer without delay.

The employers are invited to call at the office in Trafalgar street at any time that may be convenient and inspect the system that has been installed to meet the requirements of any employer who may call upon the Placement service for men from all walks of life. Any employer who cares to call will be welcomed and the system will be explained to him by one of the staff.
