LONDON BUTTER MARKET The market for New Zealand butter in London closed quiet after an active demand earlier in the week, according to information supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department. Wholesale quotations were 5s to 4s a cwt above those for last week. The cheese market was quiet at an advance of about 3s a cwt.
Wholesale prices for butter are:— New Zealand, salted, 103 s to 104 s a cwt (which equals approximately 12.20 d a lb, f.0.b., compared with 98s to 100 s last week, and 117 s to 118 s at the corresponding period last year; unsalted, 100 s to 102 s; Australian, 104 s to 105 s; Danish, spot, 1255. Retail prices are unchanged, with New Zealand butter selling at Is 2d a lb and Danish at Is 3d.
It is reported that 17,000 casks of Continental butter were bpught for New York during the week, on the basis of Dutch butter at 80s a cwt f.o.b. The Imperial Economic Committee’s estimated stocks of all butters amount to .1,011,455 boxes, compared with 831.116 boxes at the corresponding period last year, Wholesale quotations for cheese are: New Zealand, white, 70s and up to 71s a cwt (which equals 7.92 d a lb, f.0.b.), compared with 67s to 67s 6d last week and 59s to 59s 6d a year ago; coloured, G7s 6d: Canadian, 69s •to 70s; finest English farmers, 75s to 795; English factory cheese, 64s to 655.
