CHIEF EVENT TO MAZIR EMANCIPATION’S STEEPLES PAEROA, 3rd October. The Taumarunui Racing Club opened its meeting on the Paeroa course in bright sunshine. The track was in good order and there was a large attendance. Results: — Kerepeehi Hack Handicap, of £80; five furlongs. —6-8 Brown Lap, 7.7 (Bartle), 1; 10-7 Aramis, 7.10, 2; 8-9 Maori Song, 7.7, 3. Scratched: Blue Queen, Illamani. Won by two and a half lengths, a short head. Time, 1.4 1-5. Handicap Hurdles, of £100; one mile and a half. —1-1 Curlew, 9.8 (E. Thomson), 1; 3-3 Racewhip, 9.6, 2; 2-2 Kar.apa, 9.10, 3. Scratched: Bellbroney, Hawthorn. London fell at the first hurdle. Won by three-quarters of a length, four lengths. Time, 2.50. Trial Handicap of £75; six furlongs. —4-3 Locknit, 8.3 (L. Dulieu), 1; 13-13 EUanui. 8.0, 2; 1-1 Gay Flier, 8.3, 3. Scratched: Blue Queen, Racela. Won by half a length, with two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.18. Hack Cup Handicap, of £130; one mile and 110 yards.—l-1 Sergia (Glading), 8.10, 1; 5-5 Wliirlmint, 7.11, 2; 7-8 Seaman, 8.3, 3. Scratched: Queen Nona. Won by half a length, with three-quarters of a length between, second and third. Time, 1.51 1-5. Taumarunui Cup, of £130; one mile and 110 yards.—l-1 Mazir, B.C (Wiggins), 1; 3-3 Bonny Gay, 7.7, 2: 2-2 Con Fuoco, 7.7, 3. Scratched: Roxy, Silver Brier, Lagoon. Won by half a length, with three lengths between second and third.
First Steeplechase Handicap, of £120; about two and a-half miles. — 1-1 Emancipation, 10.6 (Mcllroy), 1; 8-9 Kinlde, 9.0, 2; 6-0 Green Park, 9.0, 3. Scratched: Huskie, Semiarch. Won by a short head, with a l'jigth and a half between second and third. Time, 4.58 4-5.
Flying Handicap of £120; six fur-longs.—2-1 Mungacre (Tremain), 7.11, 1; 1-2 Tray Bit, 7.10, 2; 5-5 Wahine Reihi, 7.7, 3. Scratched: Prince Acre, Little Rise. Won by three-quarters of a length, half a length. Time, 1.15 2-5.
Spring Hack Handicap, of £100; six furlongs.—-7-6 Gay Egypt, 7.8, 1; 1-1 Blue Needle. 8.8, 2; 5-5 Bonnie Song, 7.10, 3. Also started: Merial, Little Ruse, Sir Tommy, Lornacre. Won by half a length. Time, 1.16. The totalisator handled £21,375 compared with £11,219 on the opening day last year.
