WRESTLING

LOFTY BLOMFIELD V. 808 KRUSE MAJESTIC, TO-MORROW

Few wrestlers have a better record against men who have reached world class than has Bob Kruse, of Portland, who is to meet “Lofty” Blomfield (New Zealand champion) in the professional heavyweight match at the Majestic Theatre to-morrow night. Kruse has been beaten by only two championship holders, “Strangler” Lewis and the late Jim Browning, and would have an even more impressive record if he had been able to induce other title claimants to enter the ring against him. Among the men he has beaten are Steve Savage, Dan Koloff, Jock Patterson, Len Hall and Freddie Meyer, all of whom are well known in New Zealand and respected for their wrestling ability. Kruse also took a decision off George Walker before the latter left for New Zealand in 1928, and when Walker was at the top of his form. Kruse’s qualities have long been recognised in New Zealand and repeated efforts were, made to get him to visit the Dominion, but without success until this year. Kruse was not long in this country before it became evident that he was going to be a keen rival of Blomfield, with whom he eagerly sought a match. The question of superiority between them has yet to be decided and it is going to take some tough battles to discover which is the master. Mr Alf Jenkins, of Wellington, will be the third man in the ring for the professional contest. Four first class amateur contests have also been arranged and an additional feature of the programme will be the attendance of Lex Logan’s band. The box plan, which is meeting with a. record demand for seats, closes definitely at Ralph Thomas’s, Trafalgar street at C o’clock to-morrow evening.
