ASSAULT ALLEGED
FIGHT IN A CLUB (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, 2nd October. Allegations by the police of a fight which culminated in serious assault at a club early this morning were heard at the Police Court when Keith Vivian Gill, aged 21, was charged with assaulting Albert William Douglas on 2nd October. The police said that a man arrested this morning on a charget of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car was involved in a fight in a so-called club. It was alleged that he was assaulted by Gill. When Gill asked for bail, DetectiveSergeant McHugh asked that it should be substantial. Gill, he said, was an ex-jockev who had no ties here.
Gill said he had £22 in his possession. He had just returned from India, where he had been riding, and he intended to ride here when he obtained a licence.
The Magistrate, Mr Hunt, granted a remand. He allowed Gill his liberty. Gill to deposit the £22 and report to the police daily.
