DRUGS ADMINISTERED IN CIGARETTES

Time may not be far distant when cigarettes will be prescribed by doctors as a medicine. Experts are discussing the incorporation in cigarettes of a new drug called benzidine. A small dose of this has a remarkable stimulative effect on mental and physical activity. At present made in limited quantities and used for research purposes only, benzidine could easily be taken by inhalation if embodied in cigarettes.
The drug is being used successfully now intreatment by psycho-analysis. It can be administered without harmful effect and breaks down the reserve of a melancholic subject, behind which is concealed the • cause of the affliction.
Under its influence the subject talks readily and tells his or her worries to a psychologist. With this information the expert can attempt to bring about a cure. Benzidine cigarettes would probably be reserved for medical use only and would not reach general sale.
