LIVE STOCK MARKET

THE WEEK’S BLENHEIM SALE PRICES FURTHER DECLINE The steady decline in values which has been noticeable in recent sales at the Blenheim yards was continued this week, when a further easing up of about 2s Gd a head for fat ewes and about Is (id for fat wethers was registered in a comparison with the prices ruling a week ago (reports the ‘‘Express”). Another comparatively big entry was offered, the total yarding being slightly under 1350, and this, together with the fact that there was only one outside buyer in attendance, was in no small way responsible for the slumping of prices. Wethers again comprised the bigger portion of the 923 fats, and the 580 offered included a large number of shorn sheep. Good shorn wethers enjoyed sound inquiry, and it was evident that a heavier supply would have met with a ready sale. Best shorn specimens were knocked down at 25s 4d, 24s lid, 24s lOd, and 24s 9d, while woolly sheep fetched 34s 4a, 33s lid, 33s (id and down to 20s 7d for medium sorts. A couple of lots of extra heavy sorts were passed in at 32s Sd and 31s .9d. The best prices a week ago were 33s Gd, 33s and 32s 9d. The top price for ewes was 28s !>d. which was paid for a trio of super-quality sorts offered on behalf of Mr V. H. Dodson, of Spring Creek. These were closely followed by ten heavyweights belonging to Messrs Fairhall Bros., which fetched 27s 3d, and seven almost similar sold for ihc Misses Murphy, of Spring Creek, at 275. Another pen of 15 heavies also brought 275, and five others made 26s lid. Other good prices ranged from 24s 6d up to 2Gs Gd. The Lop price a week ago was 295. A total of 246 medium-sized and well-grown hoggets comprised the greater part of ihe store department. Good well-grown crossbred ewes were run up to 28s 8d and 29s 4d. while the most attractive wethers fetched 21s Id.
