REARMAMENT PROGRAMME

SUPPORTED BY BRITISH LABOUR DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS SHOULD BE DEFENDED (United Presa Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, 19th September. The “Daily Telegraph’s” political correspondent says that a five hour meeting of the Labour National Executive revealed that a substantial majority supported the Government’s rearmament programme. A sub-com-mittee was appointed to draft a resolution to that effect for submission to the ■ Executive for endorsement at the annual conference in October. A member of the House of Commons, Mr H. Dalton, said that British Labour should show a united front on the issue of preparation towards arming to defend democratic institutions. Mr J. R. .Clynes and other influential members supported this view, but Mr H. Morrison, Leader of the Labour’ Party in the London City Council, was critical and Major Attlee, Leader of the Labour Party, was noncommittal.
