NEW ZEALAND AIR SERVICES
WELL ORGANISED AND RUN VIEWS OF MR HAROLD GATTY (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. Mr Harold Gatty, the American aviator, who arrived by the Monterey from Sydney and leaves for Wellington by the Limited this evening, said he was unable to make a statement on the Pan American Company’s preparation as it was not seeking publicity and a great deal of work had yet to be done. “Australian aviation is expanding rapidly and getting ready for night flying.” said Mr Gatty. “Three-quart-ers of the flying in America is done at night and soon Australia will be doing the same. New Zealand’s problem is slightly different with shorter distances, but night flying will eventually come here. The air lines in New Zealand are all well organised and well run, having started on a solid foundation, which is more than can be said of Australia. The latter is short of experienced pilots and mechanics to carry out the expanding programme. There has been a big increase in traffic recently.”
