CRICKET ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING ~~r (From Our Own Correspondent) The annual meeting of the Motueka Cricket Association was held in the High School on Tuesday , evening, when large number of delegates attended. Mr H H. Smith occupied the chair. The annual report and balance sheet, the latter showing a credit of £8 5s Bd, were presented and adopted, on the motion of -Messrs' A. K-. Fry and A. Wratt.
A hearty vote of thanks, accorded Mr A. E. Lindup for his services as seelystnry during the past season, was carried by acclamation. Prior to vacating the chair, Mr Smith expressed his appreciation of the formation of an Umpires’ Association and o>’ the manner, in which the Association was performing its duties and urged exnlayers to give their assistance by joining that body. He also expressed his thanks to all those, who had helped to make last season a success and Co the officers of the Association for their hearty co-operation. ELECTION OF OFFICERS ' Officers for the ensuing term were elected as follows: President, Mr H. H. Smith (rc-eleccd); vice-presidents, Messrs A. E. Fry (Motueka), M. 51 ears (Riwaka), E. S. Wratt (Whakavewa), G. Wise (Lower Moutere), L. Cowin (Tui), H. B. Everett (Brooklyn), R. Thomas (Pokororo); secretary, Mr A. E. Lindup (re-elected); auditor, Mr E. S. Wratt; club delegates, -Messrs J. W. Brash (Lower (Moutere), J. Webster (Motueka), G. Fowler ( Riwaka). N. Cozens (Tui), K. Elford (Whakarewa), L. Win (Pokororo) ; emergency committee, Messrs H. Smith, A. E. Lindup and .T. Webster.
Fixture Committee: Mr A. E. Fry. Delegates to Nelson Cricket Association: Messrs Smith, Lindup, C. Eggers, Brash, Webster, and Mears. Competitions: The Pokororo Club strongly opposed the continuance of the wards system in the junior competition. A discussion ensued, and finally it was decided,, on the motion of Messrs Cozens and A. Wratt, that the junior competition be played as one ward. It was also decided that senior and junior competition fixtures commence on Saturday, 26th September. A notice of motion was tabled by Mr J. Holyoake that rule 7 be amended by the addition of the words “vice presidents.” . , Mr M. Mears suggested that in order to brighten up cricket, games be confined to one Saturday’s play. This did not meet with approval, but a revised system of championship points was considered likely to be of more benefit- in that direction. Mr A. E. Lindup gave notice to move that championship points be amended to read as follows: —Outright win, 8 points; win on first innings, 5; for loss on first innings, 3; a tie, 4 points. It was decided that the first executive meeting be held on Wednesday, 23rd September, when fixtures would be drawn. . . , .. , The delegates were informed that entries with classification lists must bo in the hands of the secretary by that 'it' was resolved (Messrs Smith and Brash) that a letter be forwarded to Dr. Pearless, expressing appreciation of his services in the, past and wishing him a speedy return to normal health. A notice of motion was tabled by Mr H Smith that the following words he added to rule 21: “All competition games shall be under the control of an umpire, duly appointed by the Motueka Umpires’ Association. . ,y- P - The question of a Wellington touring team visiting the district during the Christmas holidays was considered, and it was decided that an invitation be extended to the team offering to make full arrangements. , ' . , ' In. regard to the Senior Cup, three clubs, Riwaka, Lower Moutere and Brooklyn, being equal in points, Rnvakn and Lower Moutere agreed that it be handed to Brooklyn to hold for the seaeon.
