OBITUARY

MR CLAUDE ERNEST CHARLES GRANGER

The relatives and friends of the late Mr Claude Ernest Charles Granger, of Tinline Valley, Marlborough, suffered a severe shock when they heard of his sudden passing away on 30th August, as the result of injuries received in an accident at his work on 28th August. Mr Grang’er had been employed by Messrs Bryant Bros., swamillers, of the Tinline, for about twelve years, and at the time of the accident was engaged in tram laying, and was riding on a truck loaded with rails and sleepers. One of the latter, coming in contact with a log, swept the deceased off the truck on to the line in front of the tractor which passed over him, resulting in very serious injuries. He was hastened to Nelson Hospital, where he received every attention, but his Condition became worse on the Saturday night and he passed away early on the Sunday morning. The funeral, which was a largely representative one, took place on the Ist of September, at Spring Grove Cemetery, the service being conducted by Mr J. Bamford, of the Church of Christ at Spring Grove _and Wai-iti, of which church deceased was a valued member for a number of years. The late Mr Granger was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Charles A. Granger, Tinline, and was born al Wai-iti 29 years ago. There he spent most of his school days, later attending the school at Tui. A little over seven years ago he married Miss Rita Gill of Nelson. Deceased, who was of a bright and happy disposition, was highly respected and esteemed by all who knew him and it was always a pleasure to him to give his services to assist anyone requiring help, and he will be very much missed by all. His employers always spoke very highly of his capabilities. Deceased is survived by his widow, his parents, two sisters, Mrs J. H Mansell, of Wakapuaka, Nelson, and Miss Harriet Granger, Tinline; and two brothel's, Messrs Lewis S. and Douglas Granger, both of Tinline. Much sympathy is extended "to the bereaved widow and relatives from a wide circle of friends in Nelson and Marlborough.
