SYQUEST AT PALMEL3TON NORTH CHARGE AGAINST MOTOR CYCLIST (United Press Association!. PALMERSTON N.i Ist July. The inquest into the death of Irene Merle Campbell, aged 16, of Awahuri, who was killed shortly after midnight oh I.7th A.pril when a. motor-cycle allegedly carrying three men ran into a party: of four people'retuf-iing from a-dance, was.continued this afthmook. In. conjunction with tho; inquest a charge is being heard against William Richard Paul, aged 21. factory hand, of recklessly or 'negligently driving a motor-cycle thdreby pausing the death , of Miss Campbell. V/. Ward.who was M.C. at a dance at Awahuri on the night of the fatality, said that the accused and three other men arrived at 10 o’clock. The accused showed signs cf liquor and witness would say he was drunk. Witness hod occasion to warn the accused and -his friends about their conduct. When witness was proceeding home he passed Miss Campbell and her friends, who appeared to be in single file. Before he entered the gate to his home he heard a motor-cycle coming round a bend. .It appeared to be travelling very. fast. . Witness was inside the house when he was informed .that something had happened. •He found Miss Campbell in the- middle of the foS'cl with' a: motor-cycle on tho left-hand kide.i Three, men, Paid, Teif orcli wer;e lying alongside the Telford sat up. and asked wherfe they were.
