Third Grade: High School 18, Tui 0. The number of senior teams in the competition has now been reduced to three, with the withdrawal of Tasman. It is understood that Tasman is not in a position to continue with a senior team, and has applied to the Motueka Rugby Sub-Union to be permitted to re-enter the junior competition. This matter will be considered by the Union at its meeting on Wednesday. Tikaokao juniors were unable to field a full team at Rugby Park on Saturday and forfeited to Public Works. A friendly seven-a-side was played instead, Public Works winning by thirteen points to nil.

WANDERER V. HUIA The only senior match, played at the Park was that between Wanderer and Huia, the latter being the victors by six points to nil. Wanderer kicked off facing the sun and attacked. Huia ; secured from a scrum and carried play upfield, causing the defenders to force down. Wanderer again took the initiative, but were unable to reach the objective, and were compelled to concede ground. Power broke through to Wanderer 25, where Evans cleared nicely. Morgan, gaining possession from a kick by Powev-, led a Wanderer rush, which was stopped by Talbot Wanderer kept up the pressure and were given two opportunities to score from penalty kicks. These were unsuccessfully taken by Todd and Hy. Fowler. Play eased and Power, pickI ing up, shot through to send a pass to j Boyce, which was missed and the ball j travelled back to halfway. A further I Huia attempt was checked by N. Holy- | oake, who marked. Wanderer counterattacked per medium of Baker and Holyoake. The latter beat Busch, and dashed up the side-line to their opponents’ 25 before being grassed by Power. Taking advantage of a free kick Huia drove out the attackers and play was taken by Power and Lunn to the opposite end. Wanderer cleared and Gray continued to halfway. From a scrum Heath sent out to Power to Lunn, but a knock-on spoilt a chance. The Huia forwards battled hard to reach the line but Evans was safe at full back. A counter movement in which Wee was prominent, was followed by Morgan and Barham taking charge, but offside play held up progress. A passing rush by Heath, Power, Lunn and Boyce looked promising for Huia, until a knock-on occurred. Todd opened play for Wanderer and, after a good run, passed to Holy- i oake, who booted and Busch returned, j I Huia again broke through and were | awarded a free kick, which was taken j by Boyce, the ball going under the bar. On changing over Baker and Wee led Wanderers to their opponents’ territory for Talbot to clear. Heath and Power combined and the ball travelled up field for Knowles to place Huia in a strong position. Neilson attempted to open play for Wanderer but was' grassed. Holyoake picked up and continued to the line, where a scramble ensued. Overeagerness on the pjirt of Wanderer caused them to be penalised and Huia cleared. The ball was returned by Evans and Todd, quickly following up, secured and sent on to Morgan, who was soundly tackled before getting within striking distance. Give and take play was followed by a passing rush, in which Kelly, Jury and Heath took part. A forward pass, however, nullified the movement. Wanderers were penalised for offside play and Talbot, with a well-directed kick, opened Huia’s scoring account. Huia 3, Wanderer 0. Boyce attempted to open play for Huia, but Morgan returned in a solo ; effort and by punting over the heads of his opponents and regaining posses- I sion gained forty yards. In a counter j attack by the Huia forwards Kelly, j Newman and Ingram were conspicu- J ous. Good defensive work by Wan- i derer kept the attackers out and the j ball was taken to the opposite end ' in a movement initiated by Fowler and Neilson. At this stage both teams made the game very willing and both battled hard for an opening. Wanderer continued to press and delivered j a series of attacks, which they could

not finalise. Huia broke through in a forward rush and Wanderer found relief in a force down. From a scrum Heath passed to Power, the ball travelling to Shaw to score a good try. Talbot failed with the kick. Huia 6, Wanderer 0. Midfield play ensued for several minutes until Wanderers broke away, Gray smartly transferring to Fowler, who, after gaining ground returned to Gray. This movement was smothered and Kelly returned with the ball at toe. Time sounded with HUia the winners by. six points to nil. Mr H. Delany controlled the match.
