ROAD TO TAHUNANUI
(To The Editor)
Sir,—We read of many suggestions in your columns for the welfare and progress of our city and suburbs. I crave permission for a little space for the same purpose. The footpath and bicycle track from Magazine point to the Tahunanui bus waiting room is in a very rough state, so much so, that people very often walk on the road at night to the inconvenience of motorists arid motor cyclists, the road being so much smoother. I think that this being the only footpath for pedestrians to and from the City to the Tahuna Sands and beach for bathing and picnics, etc., the City Council and Tahuna Town Board should join In putting this side walk in decent order. If finance is the difficulty why not topdress the rougher portions, and make things as pleasant as possible for them. I remember when the loan was before the ratepayers for building the Rocks road, one great cry was for the pleasure ,of. our women and children. That was some forty years ago. We have still the same cry. And again, the motor road at Magazine point is very narrow; the cyclists at times ride two and three abreast, compelling the motor drivers to slow clown to their pace until the drivers can get a clear view if it is safe to pass them. The sidewalk here is very wide with plenty of room for all cyclists and pedestrians. This side wall is for cyclists as well as others. I suggest placing a notice ! in a prominent place asking cyclists ;to use the side walk. I suggest this j to avoid a possible accident in the future.—l am, etc., . , < MOTORIST. Tahunanui, 19th June.
