INSPECTED BY ROYAL PARTY PRINCESS ELIZABETH’S DELIGHT (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 26th May, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, 25th May; His Majesty, King Edward VIII, left Fort Belvedere by air for Southampton to inspect the liner Queen -Mary,tc which the Duke and Duchess of York, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke and Duchess of Kent and Princess Elizabeth travelled by train. ... ... Piloted by Commander Sir Edgar _ Britten, Commodore of Cunard-White Star Ltd., the King and Queen and party extensively toured the liner. The Queen devoted special attention to the kitchens, while Princess Elizabeth enjoyed the delights of the children’s playroom, where she slid down a chute. Later the King and his brothers inspected the engines, all of which, were in motion. The visitors expressed amazementat the lack of vibration. Princess Elizabeth received a gre&t thrill when allowed to press the; blit- ;, ton sounding the Queen Mary’is' giajit ' siren, whose deep boom was heard for miles. The Royal party saw .a lifeboat . swung out. The Queen was astonished to learn that it held more passengers than the Cunard’s first steamer Britannia. The King and Queen Mary sgined the photographs of themselves for the ship'and all members of the’ Royal party signed the visitors’ book.' The Queen said the ship was even more beautiful than she expected. The King, who wore a black suit' and a straw hat, when driving’but;; from the dock to the aerodrome waved to the crowd with a pipe in one hand and a match in the other.
