TERRIFIC SEAS
N.S.W. COAST LASHED FACTORY BUILDING UNDERMINED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) . (Received 26th May, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Terrific seas again lashed the coast of New South Wales yesterday, and cyclonic conditions still covered a wide range of the Tasman Sea. Coastal shipping was hampered and many vessels were forced to run for shelter.
Mountainous seas caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage at Byron Bay. Pounding waves washed away a terrace and undermined a large factory building, which ultimately collapsed. A quantity of metal products was washed into the sea, but costly machinery was salvaged. At Brunswick Heads waves broke over the promenade wall, invading private property and causing heavy damage.
