BRIGHT WATER HEADMASTER FAREWELLED LG' .-.ir.-x s,,— mcxijccajt:.. A public farewell was tendered Mr and Mrs R. E. Eyles of Brightwater, on the eve of their departure for Bulls, Mr Eyles having been appointed headmaster of the Bulls School. A packed hall testified to the popularity of the guests, the evening taking the form of a social gathering interspersed with danr-mg Mr E. L. Bensemann, chairman, on behalf of the public committee, thanked all who had contributed to a most enjoyable evening’s entertainment. Mr W. H. Bryant, in making the public presentation, expressed keen regret at losing such, good citizens as Mr and Mrs Eyles. As a teacher, Mr Eyles had many fine qualities, and the speaker felt sure that the children, in years to come, would reap the benefit of the tuition they had received, not only inside the school, but from the surroundings also, for Mr Eyles was well and favourably known for his love of all things beautiful. In asking Mrs Eyles to accept a chiming clock, and Mr Eyles a travelling bag, botli suitably inscribed, Mr Bryant expressed the thanks of the people of Brightwater for all they had done and wished them every success and happiness in the North. ,
Other presentations were made by Mr J. F. Potter, on behalf of the Teachers’ Institute, a set of pipes to Mr Eyles; the Rev. Mr Dudley on behalf of the church, a beautiful hymn book to Mrs Eyles; Mr F. C. Page on behalf of the Tennis Club, a handsome dinner set, and Mr N. Kearns an afternoon tea service on behalf of the Rainbow Club. Many tributes were paid by the speakers to the departing guests. Mr Eyles in reply, said he felt that he did not deserve one half of the good things that had been said of him. What little they had done was no more than anyone would do. Mrs Eyles and himself would always treasure the many fine presentations made to them that night. In concluding a happy and witty reply, on behalf of Mrs Eyles and himself he thanked all most sincerely for their many expressions of goodwill.
