ALLEGATIONS AGAINST SEMEN CHUK
CONDITIONS ON WRANGEI. ISLAND

MOSCOW, 20th May. I. D. Simcnehuk claimed to be the
“man from Mars,” and staled that the natives regarded him as a man from another world ; but declared that he was feigning insanity to escape punishment. -Sensational evidence was disclosed when Simcnehuk enforced a reign of terror, lie committed at least two murders, caused another to commit suicide, starved the natives and closed communication with the outside world.
I. D. Simenchuk, director of the Polar station of Wrangel Island, was on trial charged with creating a dictatorship, and ill-treating the scientific staff and local population.
