EXCHEQUER RETURNS
REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 19th May. Exchequer returns show that total inland revenue, excluding sell-balanc-ing items, amounts to £69,9/3,534, compared with £80,357,781 at the corresponding date last year. Receipts troni surtax are £3,140,000. against £2,930,000 in the same period of the last financial year, although the £9,739,000 irom income tax is nearly £2,000,000 less than last year, thus illustrating the delayed effects of recovery on the yield of surtax, against £24,819,000 a year ago. Total ordinary expenditure, exclusive of self-balancing items, is £100,810,376, against £98.337,163 at the corresponding date in 1935.
