FINAL RESOLUTIONS AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS
. 'At the 51st annual convention of tlio Women’s Christian Temperance Union which concluded at Auckland the following resolutions were carried: “Ihat the Government be urged to legislate so that propomoters' of art unions be compelled to publish statements ot receipts- and expenditure at the same time as the results are published, or as soon after as possible.”- Another proposed by Mrs Moyes was to the effect that Parliament be _ urged to bring down legislation making it dlc B al for any'child under the age of 10 to sell tickets for raffles, art unions, 01 any form of gambling, Mrs Bedford proposed'“That the convention should urge unions and individual members to take a stand against participating in any form of gambling, whether by means of the totalisator, art unions or- anything that encourages the spirit ° f The presentation of banners took place during the afternoon, the awards liein"-:—Greatest increase of membei-S?-Napier, lj Mount Albert,. 2. Largest roll of little white nbboners: Nelson, 1; Oahi, 2. Largest cradle roll: Southland district. Largest Loyal Temperance Legion roll: Nelson. Band of Hope role: Ponsonby. The gol* medal for the special childrens essay was won by Daphne Keen, of \\ aimate. Bannerets for unions securing 11 or more new white ribbon susenbers were presented to Brooklyn, Hamilton, aiid Masterton branches, Wellington district winning the prize of one guinea for the largest district increase. Dominion officers elected yesterday were; —President. Mrs Hiett; recording secertary, Miss Kirk; corresponding secretary, Mrs Mitchell; vice-president, Mrs Paterson; treasurer, Miss IxwellSmitli. Superintendents of departments were elected as underi-r-Young people, Miss C. McLay; - anti-gambling, _ Mrs Pirrett; back blocks camps and institutions, Mrs Moyes; Bands of Hope and Loyal Temperance Legions, Mrs Bathgate; Bible-in-Schools, evangelistic and Sabbath J. Cook; bulletin, Mrs Carr; educational bureau, Miss Powell; flower and philips thropic, Mrs Spencer; good citizenship, Mrs Williams; home meetings, Mrs H. Chisholm; legal and Parliamentary, Miss Henderson; little white ribboners, Mrs Smith; Maori, Miss Henderson; notable days, Miss Smvth; Press, Miss Trevurza; peace and arbitration, Mrs T. E. Taylor; scientific and medical temperance, Mrs Clara Neal; methods, Mrs Hugh Kaspar; social and moral hygiene, Mrs Lowry; work among seamen, Mrs M. Norrie; Y* international correspondence bureau, Miss Cawthron. A presentation from the convention was made for Miss Henderson who for 23 years has served the union as Dominion corresponding secretary. A presentation was also made to Miss Annie McLay, who for nine years has done excellent service as Dominion organiser. The invitation of North Canterbury for the convention fo be held there inj 1937 was accepted.
