STEELWORKS STRIKE
SETTLEMENT IN SIGHT (United Press Association) SYDNEY, 30th, March. A message from Wollongong states that a largely-attended meeting of members of the Port Kembla branch of the Ironworkers’ Union passed a resolution in favour of resuming work at the steelworks on terms agreed to by representatives of the local citizens’ committee and the Australian Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. The terms provide that the employers reinstate the whole of the strikers, including the man who refused to work overtime, and that the dispute be the subject of a conference either between the company and the men or direct reference to the "Arbitration Commission.
A mass meeting 0 f all unions involved in tlie strike will be held at the Trades Hall, Sydney, to-morrow, when it is expected that these terms will he adopted. A later message states that the strike is certain to be settled to-morrow on the above terms. The men have lost at least £IOO,OOO in wages during the currency of the strike, eight weeks.
