CHAIN STORES

OPPOSED BY CHEMISTS POLICY OF GOVERNMENT (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, 28tli March. _ It seems likely that the whole question of chain-store pharmacy in New Zealand, which was the subject of numerous petitions to Parliament last session, will again come prominently before the House in the immediate future, when a fresh deluge of petitions can be expected. So far as can be ascertained at the moment the position i s that the Goveniment lias merely confirmed the decision of the previous Government that a large overseas company should be granted permission to open pharmacy stores in Wellington and Auckland. _ Members of the present Administration, however, when in Opposition gen. 1 "rally leaned towards the side of the chemists who strenuously opposed the establishment of the chain store principle, but with the change of Government the whole question is brought prominently into the. arena of politics again. Loth sides are likely to present their views to Parliament in the immediate future and the whole question will then be considered by a Committee of tho House. When the Committee presents its report to Parliament further action may be expected by Cabinet, but in' the meantime no commitment seems to have been given to either side as to wind will be (lone in the future.
